Welcome to Predation/Chase Training

Predation or chase instincts in dogs are natural behaviours that can be harnessed in a positive way with the right guidance. This training is designed to help owners understand and manage these instincts while fostering a deeper bond with their dog.

The training is based on Simone Muellers – Predation Substitute Training( PST) I am a qualified Instructor with PST.

What is Predation/Chase Training?

Predation and chase behaviour in dogs typically involves the instinct to chase, stalk, and sometimes capture moving objects—often seen in dogs that go after small animals, cars, or other moving stimuli. While this behaviour is rooted in natural instincts, it can sometimes become problematic, especially in environments where control is essential.

In our lessons, we explore what predation is, and what it could be when it’s not properly managed. You’ll learn to identify the signs of predation, understand why your dog is driven by these instincts, and discover ways to address it positively.

Tools to Support and Interim Management

Predation training involves various tools and strategies to manage these instincts, such as calming exercises, proper leash handling, and focus work to prevent inappropriate chasing. We also introduce interim management techniques like impulse control exercises and structured outlet training to redirect energy positively. These strategies can help prevent undesirable behaviours while allowing your dog to enjoy their natural instincts in a controlled way.

Having Fun Together

The goal of Predation/Chase training is to create an enjoyable experience for both you and your dog. Rather than suppressing your dog’s natural instincts, we teach you how to channel them into productive activities that can be fun, engaging, and enriching for both of you. It’s about understanding each other and having fun together, whether through scent games, focus exercises, or controlled chase activities.

Whether you're dealing with a dog who chases cars, wildlife, or even toys, this training provides the tools to help you manage the chase instinct in a way that benefits both you and your dog’s well-being.
